Seth Dodds, Browning Resident, Answers Call

Seth Dodds, youngest of ten children of James and Caroline Saylor Dodds, was born in Schuyler county, Illinois, on August 9, 1873, and departed this life on Dec. 11, 1940, being at the time of his death 67 years, 4 months and 2 days old.

He was united in marriage to Lenora Newell of Bainbridge township on Nov. 5, 1896 at Rushville, Ill. They established a home on a farm in Bainbridge township where they resided until about 1911, when they moved to Browning township, where they have since resided.

During the pioneer days of our country, Mr. Dodd’s father migrated to this land from Ireland at the age of 24 years in the spring of 1840, and located at Pittsburg, Pa., later moving with his wife to Schuyler county, Illinois, in the spring of 1856 where they resided until their death.

The deceased confessed to Christ a number of years ago and was baptized following a revival meeting held by Rev. Davidson. He was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in time of trouble and will be greatly missed by all of his friends and neighbors.

Mr. Dodds was preceded in death by his wife one year ago, an infant daughter, five sisters and one brother. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dortha Davies of Beardstown, Ill.; Mrs. Florence Walton of Browning, and Mrs. Velma Toland, Peoria, Ill.; by one sister, Mrs. Millie Bradman of Beardstown; two brothers, John and James, both of Schuyler county; seven grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church in Browning, conducted by Rev. Fred Thompson of Astoria. Interment in the Browning cemetery.
