Inquest Held In Auto Death

James W. Dobbs, 37, Canton Resident, Killed At Railroad Crossing

An inquest into the death of James William Dobbs, 37 years old, a foundry worker of Canton, who was instantly killed last Wednesday morning when the car in which he was riding with three other persons crashed into a train was held Thursday afternoon by Dr. Coroner Mark Nelson. The fatal accident occurred seven miles south of Canton at Kellys crossing.

Others injured were Mrs. Florence Conway Bybee, 21 years old, owner and driver of the auto according to police; Muriel Brooks, 29, of Canton.

All are in the Canton hospital with lacerations and all were reported to be in a state of shock. Mrs. Bybee’s injuries include lacerations to the right knee and bruises. Miss Countney had injuries to her left knee and head while Mr. Brooks has lacerations on his shoulders and forehead.

Mr. Dobbs was born in Deepwater, Mo., April 15, 1903, a son of William and Betty Ritter Dobbs. He had been a resident of Canton for the past four years and was employed in the foundry department at the I. H. C. Plant. On December 20, 1939, he married Myrtle Blonda Smith at Canton, Mo.

Surviving are the widow; the parents; two sons by a former marriage, William, 16, and Charles, 15, both of Macomb; four brothers, George of Macomb, Charles of Rock Island, Ernest and Cleo of Deepwater, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bailey of Deepwater and Mrs. Marie Webb of Peoria.
