Fred A. Carlton, 82, of Astoria died at 9:40 p.m. Aug. 22, 2024, at his home.
He was born May 5, 1942, in Peoria, the son of Robert and Bessie Wamsley Carlton. He married Mary Standley on July 3, 1987, in Meredosia. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2020.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Lynn Moore; and eight brothers and sisters.
Surviving are one son, Chris (and Rosa Fink) Carlton of Pekin; one stepson, Bill (and Shannon) Hawkshaw of Rochester; one stepdaughter, Amanda (and Chris) Downing of Concord, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a truck driver and member of the Teamster’s Union. He also was a member of the Hickory-Kerton Fire Department and the Hickory-Kerton Township Board.
He was the owner and operator of Bear’s Den in Lomax.
Burial was in the Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
