Margaret CrumMargaret Frances Crum, 108, of Rushville died at 4:20 a.m. Jan. 5, 2023, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born April 26, 1914, at the home of her parents in Buena Vista Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Samuel Hobart and Mary Elizabeth Eifert Bartlett. She married Arthur Marshall Crum on Nov. 10, 1940. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1981.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Robert Eugene Crum; one brother, Kenneth Lloyd Bartlett; and one sister, Lois Velma Bartlett Illman.

Surviving are two daughters, Caryl Jeanne Burke and Elizabeth Justine (and Steve) Maxwell, both of Rushville; one son, Lyle Marshall (and Dianna) Crum of Rushville; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She attended Oakwood School and then graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1932. She attended Western Teacher’s College for two years before beginning her teaching career in 1934 at Oakwood School. She taught at many country schools until the country schools closed, finishing at Houston School in 1956. She began teaching in Rushville where she taught at Webster, Washington and then finished her career by teaching sixth grade at the old Rushville Junior High for 23 years before retiring in 1979.

After retirement she worked part time at the Rushville Public Library. She attended Curry Chapel Church and later joined Rushville First United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Funeral services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Stacy Tomich officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
