She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Beardstown, a daughter of Lawrence and Georgianna Root Wilson. She married Wayne Copes on May 3, 1947. He preceded her in death in 2004.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Naomi Copes; six brothers, Woodrow, Clarence, Elmer, John, Clyde and Joseph; and one sister, Loreeta Rogers.
Surviving are one daughter, Joy (and Lindell) Beck of Colchester; one son, Todd Copes of Vermont; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She grew up in Versailles before graduating from Industry High School in 1941. After graduation, she attended Olivet Nazarene College where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Eldorado Township.
She was a lifelong member of Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Macomb Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Judy Davenport officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Vermont Cemetery in Vermont.
Memorials may be made to Macomb Church of the Nazarene or MDH Hospice.
