Joyce CowanJoyce Ann Cowan, 84, of Crawfordsville, Ind., died at 10:30 a.m. May 14, 2022, at the home of her daughter in Crawfordsville.

She was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Peoria, a daughter of Rudolph and Edna Harmon Smith. She married Vernon “Bobby” Cowan on April 5, 1964, in Keokuk, Iowa. He survives.

Also surviving are five children, Elizabeth (and Randy) Cordell and Rachel (and Jim) Campbell, both of Crawfordsville, Verna (and Darrell) Caho of East Peoria, Sharon (and Jerry) Burdess of Cuba and Sam (and Stephanie) Cowan of New Washington, Ind.; two sisters, Helen Adams of Zanesville, Ohio, and Loretta Kotzmoyer of Landisville, Pa.; one brother, Frank (and Juanita) Smith of Greenville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

She graduated from Limestone Community High School in Bartonville. She was a homemaker. She was a devoted and active member of several churches over the years. Most recently she was a member of Fremont Street Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, Ind., where she and Bob resided.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Howard Love and Pastor Dan Aldrich officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be held in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
