Barbara CooperBarbara Lea Cooper, 78, of Rushville died at 2:05 p.m. Feb. 5, 2022, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 5, 1943, in Herriman, Tenn., a daughter of Jay B. and Lucille Balcer Williams. She married Hayden Mac Cooper II on Sept. 19, 1969, in Memphis, Tenn. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2014.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Danny Williams.

Surviving are two daughters, Catherine Salemi of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sarah Cooper of Rushville; one son, Joshua A. (and Jane) Cooper of London, England; two sisters, Rita Nunn of Memphis, Tenn., and Betty McIntosh of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She received her Masters Degree in Sociology from Western Illinois University in Macomb. She was a member of Rushville First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Master Gardeners of Illinois. She was a past troop leader for Girl Scouts of America. She was a substitute teacher for many years. She taught at the Western Illinois Correctional Facility before retirement.

Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to The Princess Theater, Pandora’s Playhouse or The Master Gardener’s Club.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Scripps Park Virginia Community Building with Mr. David Haney officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Princess Theater, Pandora’s Playhouse or the Master Gardeners Club. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
