Keith ChapmanKeith Chapman, 75, of Frederick died at 12:05 p.m. Sept. 13, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County, a son of Maurice and Julia Smedley Chapman. He married Marcie McCaulley on July 5, 1962, in Virginia, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Army Veteran Sargent Franny Simmons of Petersburg, Ind., Tammy (and Rick) Fretueg of Camden, Sargent First Class Retired Timothy S. (and Kellee) Chapman of Plato, Mo., and Brenda (and Dan) Doolin of Frederick; one brother, Richard “Jack” (and Donna) Chapman of Mendota; one sister, Barbara (and Donald “Smitty”) Smith of Chapin; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Chapman; and one great-granddaughter, Kenley Simmons.

He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He worked for 29 years as a heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers retiring in 2006. He then owned and operated Chapman Excavation.

He was a member of the Schuyler American Legion Post #4, Ripley Church of God (Abrahamic Faith) and the National Rifle Association. He also was a member and actively rode with the Patriot Guard. He was a ham radio operator AA9GK.

Graveside services were held Saturday at the Clark-Newberry Cemetery near Frederick with Rob Laning officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Schuyler Veterans Memorial or the Patriot Guard.
