Russel CunninghamRussel C. Cunningham, 98, of Rushville died at 7:45 p.m. July 5, 2015, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.

He was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Schuyler County, a son of Dwight and Rose Rang Cunningham. He married Mary Frances Estes on June 5, 1948, in Seaton. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1997.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Cunningham.

Surviving are his five children, Glenn Cunningham, Gene (and Linda) Cunningham, all of Rushville, Danny Cunningham of Ina, Marilyn (and Dan) Grossmann and Martha (and Allen) Tippey, all of Rushville; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

A graduate of Rushville High School, he served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a lifelong farmer. He was a longtime member of Rushville Free Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School. He also was a member of the Schuyler County Farm Bureau and participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, in October of 2011.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at his church with Pastor Greg Fish and Pastor Rob Kirkham officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army Burial Detail and the Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.
