He was born Oct. 17, 1953, a son of John R. and Thelma Ann Cox Carey. He married Karen Lung Phillips on July 1, 2000, in Rushville. She survives.
Also surviving are his father; two daughters, Joni (and Eric) Wagner of Mount Sterling and Jaris (and Benjamin) Buehler of Navarre, Fla.; three stepsons, Joseph (and Cathy) Phillips of Rushville, Shaun (and Kayla) Phillips of Mount Sterling and Adam (and Toni) Phillips of Mason City; two brothers, Lynn (and Sue) Carey and Mike (and Nita) Carey, both of Rushville; two sisters, Kathy (and Bill) Eckroy and Debbie (and Steve) Fuqua, both of Rushville; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and one daughter, Mindy Koch.
He was a musician, carpenter, farmer, truck driver and logger during his working career.
Services were held Sunday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Larry DeSha officiating. Burial was in Palm Cemetery.
