J.B. Carithers

J.B. Carithers, 79, of Vermont died at 2:15 a.m. April 1, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 6, 1933, in Vermont, a son of Joseph E. and Mildred E. Schroeder Carithers. He married Helen L. Hendrickson on Aug. 11, 1951, in Macomb. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2004.

He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Furry; two sisters, JoAnn Dalton and Mary Ann Carithers; and two brothers, William Carithers and Robert Carithers.

Surviving are two sons, Bob (and Debbie) Carithers of Table Grove and Todd (and Kathy) Carithers of Middlebury, Ind.; three daughters, Tana (and Dan) Chenoweth of Table Grove, Kathy (and Ron Shoush) Carithers of Vermont and Peggy (and Rick) Weiss of Bushnell; one brother, Cay Carithers of Mount Carmel; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He worked for Ken Ray Foundry in Vermont. He also was owner/operator of The Dip-It Shop in Vermont, CCC Construction and Vermont Mini Storage.

He was a member of Vermont Fire and Rescue Squad.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Dave Vandeman officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Vermont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Vermont Fire Department, Vermont Christian Church or Vermont Methodist Church.
