Richard ChurchillRichard L. Churchill, 81, of Cuba died at 8:15 a.m. April 17, 2010, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

He was born June 17, 1928, in Canton, a son of Leonard Andrew and Leoma Margurette Mary Degitz Churchill. He married Shirley Joan Weese on Aug. 23, 1953, in Camden. She died Dec. 15, 2000.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Walters and Dorothy Churchill; and one brother, Donald Churchill.

Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Churchill of Bloomington and Rosalie (and Roger) Swango of Smithfield; one son, Bill Churchill of Morrison; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 90th Field Artillery Battalion of the 25th Infantry Tropic Lightning Division that was stationed in Japan in 1946 and 1947.

He graduated from Cuba High School in 1946.

He was a member of Cuba FFA Chapter and 4-H Club. He was a 4-H leader receiving the Fulton County 4-H Alumni Award in 1973 in honor of continued service to the 4-H program.

He was a retired grain and livestock farmer in Joshua Township and later Pleasant Township in Fulton County.

He attended Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield.

He was a member of Fulton County Pork Producers, Fulton County Farm Bureau, Canton Elks, Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Ardith Corsaw officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by Lewistown VFW and Lewistown American Legion. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home.
