Elsie CoxElsie Clarice Cox, 99, of Roanoke died at 1:20 a.m. Aug. 31, 2009, at Eureka Community Hospital.

She was born July 31, 1910, in Roanoke Township, a daughter of Henry and Clara Hunzinger Heyungs. She married Edward E. Cox on July 21, 1937, in Secor. He died Oct. 22, 1988.

She also was preceded in death by one infant brother, Hobart; one infant sister, LaVeryne; one sister, Talitha Moritz; and two brothers, Joyce and George Heyungs.

Surviving are one daughter, Ardith (and Bryce) Johnson of Polson, Mont.; two sons, Edward (and Helen) Cox Jr. of Peoria and Roger (and Tere) Cox of Astoria; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She had worked at several Roanoke businesses including the former O’Deas Cleaners and Roanoke Hardware.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Roanoke where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also was a founding member of Roanoke Art League and belonged to Friends in Faith Ladies Group.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at her church with Pastor Bruce Scarbeary officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Roanoke Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church, Roanoke Apostolic Christian Nursing Home or Roanoke Library.
