William L. Cassidy, 85, of Table Grove died at 12:35 p.m. Jan. 2, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Table Grove, a son of Lee and Geraldine Baily Cassidy. He married Mary Ogilvie on June 8, 1947, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jim (and Cindy) Cassidy of Table Grove; one daughter, Ann (and Darrell) Patridge of Table Grove; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Leslie Ann Cassidy; and one brother, Thomas Cassidy.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1946 serving as a Staff Sargeant in the 4168th Quartermaster Depot Company in charge of 175 military personnel and civilians guarding the quartermaster supply installation in the Philippines.

He was a cattle feeder his entire life.

He was a member of Table Grove American Legion Post #413, where he was a past commander, Table Grove Community Church, Vermont Masonic Lodge #116, director of Table Grove State Bank, VIT School Board and Mid-Century Telephone Board, Phi Delta Theta Sorority of Knox College, McDonough County Historical Society and considered a local historian and genealogist.

Services were held Tuesday at his church with Pastor Rob Harrison officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery in Table Grove with military rites conducted by Table Grove American Legion Post #413. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
