Helen Charpie

Helen E. Charpie, 91, of Rushville formerly of Bloomingdale, died at 1:25 a.m. April 7, 2008, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Moline, a daughter of Cyril and Clara E. Bonsall Dumon. She married Paul F. Charpie on April 23, 1938, in South Bend, Ind. He died Nov. 1, 2002.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy M. Chipman of Rushville; one son, James P. (and Jenny) Charpie of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Glen Ellyn, where she was a deaconess and volunteer. She was a former member of First Christian Church in Maywood.

She was a coordinator of the Rules of the Road Program in Elmhurst. In 1984, she was named VIP Women of the Year in Elmhurst. She was past president of the Maywood 20th Century Women’s Club. For six years, she served as president of the Resident Council at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

Private services will be held at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John E. Sowers officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Macular Degeneration Foundation or First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Endowment Fund in Rushville.
