Thelma CareyThelma Ann Carey, 71, of Rushville died at 8:35 a.m. May 19, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Petersburg, a daughter of Delbert and Ruth Lynn Cox. She married John R. Carey on March 4, 1953, in New London, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Randy (and Karen) and Mike (and Nita), both of Rushville and Lynn (and Sue) of Camden; two daughters, Kathy (and Bill) Eckroy and Debbie (and Steve) Fuqua, both of Rushville; three brothers, Ronnie Cox, and Larry (and Pat) Cox, both of Savanna and Art (and Mary) Cox of Chillicothe; four sisters, Bonnie (and Gary) Abney of Savanna, Sue (and Jack) Fritchnitch of Morris, Linda Johnson of Chillicothe and Jean (and Jerry) Force of Beardstown; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherald and Ronald Dean Cox; and two sisters, Shirley Cox and Betty Mathis.

She attended several churches.

She was a caregiver to the elderly in her home for many years and later cared for them in their homes. She worked as a certified nurses aide at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville for two years.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Rob Kirkham and Rev. Billy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church of the donor’s choice or Schuy-Light Christian Coffee House in Rushville.
