Verna E. Colbert, 89, of Lewistown died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton, where she was a resident.
She was born Dec. 17, 1913, in Ipava, a daughter of Carl A. and Sylvia M. Vaughn Sipe. She married Roy P. Colbert on Sept. 5, 1936, in Havana. He died Oct. 16, 1984.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Roy and D. Lee; three brothers; and four sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Larry (and Florann) of Lakeland, Fla., and Dennis (and Mona) of Sun Lake, Ariz.; two sisters, Delba Sipe of Lewistown and Erma Baum of Canton; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She worked as a news reporter for the former Lewistown News, where she wrote the weekly column "Around the Block."
She also had worked as an office manager for a Lewistown insurance agency.
She also was a site manager for the Fulton County Nutrition Project for several years.
She was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown.
Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
Memorials may be made to her church or Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.
