Dr. Robert CoxDr. Robert E. Cox, 64, of Rushville died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1939, in Pontiac, Mich., a son of James Eugene and Harriet Larsen Cox. He married Christie L. Strong on July 27, 1963, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dan (and Nancy) of Rushville; two daughters, Julie Taylor of Peoria and Courtenay (and Collin) Ring of Macomb; one brother, Milton of Duluth, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

A member of Schuyler American Legion Post 4, he was a Navy veteran with rank of lieutenant, serving from Aug. 13, 1966, to Aug. 16, 1968.

A graduate of Eastern Illinois University and the University of Illinois School of Medicine, he practiced medicine in Rushville since September 1968. He also served as the Schuyler County coroner since December 1980.

He was a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He also was a member of Rushville Masonic Lodge 9, AF&AM, Rushville Commandry No. 56, Ansar Shrine in Springfield, and Linking Rings Magic Club.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rushville, where he sang in the Generations Choir.

Services were held Sunday at his church with Revs. Mary and Paul Arnold officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or to Culbertson Memorial Hospital.
