Ruth Clanin

Ruth P. Clanin, 101, of Astoria died at 6:31 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born July 14, 1901, in Summum, a daughter of Edward and Minnie Danner Spangler. She married Clare Clanin on June 2, 1923, in Astoria. He died July 20, 1979.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Muriel Heinold; one brother, Delbert Spangler; and one half brother, Boyd Danner.

Surviving are one niece, Carole (and Bud) Wixom of Hemet, Calif.; and two great nieces, Jennifer (and Eric) Swiger of Anchorage, Ark., Gwendolyn (and Joshua) Easley of Fresno, Calif.

She was a school teacher in rural Astoria, worked for the Mummert Seed Co. of Astoria and was on the Pleasant Township Election Board.

She was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren and Summum Christian Church.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Gary Schultz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery in Summum.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Church of the Brethren or Summum Cemetery.
