Clara Carrison

Clara A. Carrison, 95, of the Heritage Home in Carthage, formerly of Macomb, died at 12:20 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2000, at the Heritage Home in Carthage.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1904, in New Salem Township in McDonough County, a daughter of Fred and Blanche Wilson Carrison.

She is survived by one sister, Mary Chenoweth of Macomb; one niece, Sue Hibbard of Carthage; one nephew, John Chenoweth of Table Grove; two great-nieces; and four great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one brother in infancy and two sisters in infancy.

She taught 10 years of high school in Camp Point, Bushnell and Macomb. She then taught at Western Illinois University, Westminister Maryland College, Beaver College in Jenkintown, Penn., Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y., University of Denver and then Stout State College in Wisconsin for the next 27 years, before her retirement.

She helped fund scholarships for many young students during her lifetime.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gama, P.E.O., A.A.U.P. and the Wesley United Methodist Church.

She had lived in Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz., for 17 years before she returned to Macomb.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at 7 p.m. at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Phil Nevius officiating. Private burial of ashes will be at the Barker Cemetery near Table Grove.

Memorials may be made to Bethphage in Macomb.
