MILDRED ELOISE "ELLIE" (FULMER) BATLEY COOK

Mildred Eloise “Ellie” Cook, 85, formerly of Table Grove and Ipava, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at her daughter’s home in Queens, New York.

She was born Mildred Eloise Fulmer in Detroit, Ill., on Feb. 1, 1913. She married Robert M. Batley on June 14, 1937. He died on June 29, 1946. She later married Walter O. Cook on Aug. 14, 1948. He died on Feb. 5, 1983. She was also preceded in death by one son, one stepson and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Lucie Evans of New York; one stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Lonergin of Jacksonville; and six grandchildren; one brother, Jack of Springfield; and one sister, Doris of California.

A graduate of Western Illinois University, Mrs. Cook spent her entire career as an educator. Her first teaching position was in a one-room school near Gregory, where she taught grades 1-8. She later taught for several years at Vermont Grade School and for 30 years was a first grade teacher in Havana, retiring in 1980.

Cremation rites were accorded in New York on Saturday, Dec. 12.
