ELAINE M. (DeSCHEPPER) CARR

Elaine M. Carr, 63, of Galesburg, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Sheffield, the daughter of Charles Ambrose and Irene Christian DeSchepper. She married Leo Carr on Oct. 30, 1965, in Kewanee. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Charles of Peoria; two daughters, Amy Canaday of Jacksonville and Ann Lascelles of Ipava; one brother, Robert DeSchepper of Toulon; and four grandchildren.

One daughter, Winnefred, and one granddaughter preceded her in death.

She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Kewanee in 1956 and received her degree in obstetrics from the University of Chicago in 1958.

She worked for Chicago Lying Hospital for one year. She then was an obstetrical supervisor at St. Francis Hospital in Kewanee. She later was assistant director of nursing at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg for 14 years.

She was assistant chapter manager and director of nursing and health at the American Red Cross for six years. She also worked at Marigold Health Care Center and Seminary Manor and was coordinator for the director of rehabilitation at Beechwood Health Care Center in Pekin, retiring in 1996.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Kewanee and Galesburg for more than 20 years.

Services were held this morning at her church with Rev. James McAteer officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
