Obituary.

Lucy Cummings died at her home west of Astoria, Sunday, November 19th, aged thirteen years, three months and one day. Shortly after the death of her mother which occured October the first she was taken with typhoid fever, and after a lingering illness of six weeks she quietly passed away. Upon the death of the mother, Lucy became the father’s trusted dependence to care for the house and younger children left in her care. But death, that spares not the leaf in midsummer, and “blights the meadows in their garb of green,” sought this young life in the springtime of its promise and called it to bloom in endless summer. The father has the sympathy of the community in, this his second great loss in so short a time, but while he mourns her departure we believe the loss to him is her eternal gain. We may bear the sadness of the parting hour if we know our children have taken up their abode in a more pleasant, and enduring clime. Brief services, consisting of song, prayer and words of comfort, were held at the house, after which the remains were interred in the Astoria cemetery. — H.
