He was born Feb. 25, 1963, in Peoria, a son of James and Ethel Phillips Burgard. He married Jane Ellen Bader on March 3, 2003. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2020.
He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are four sisters, Laura (and Michael) Barrett of Peoria, Dorothy Burgard of Davenport, Iowa, Donna Brown of Marion, Ind., and Peggy Kemper of Delavan; eight brothers, Jim (and Debby) Burgard and Don (and Tina) Burgard, both of Aiken, S.C., Jerry (and Jules) Burgard of East Peoria, John (and Melinda) Burgard of Beach Grove, Ky., Fred (and Sharron) Burgard of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Tom (and Brooke Wharton) Burgard of Homosassa, Fla., Mike (and Charlotte) Burgard of Saint Cloud, Fla., and Pat (and Jackie) Burgard of Cleburne, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a roofer for over 40 years. He worked for several different roofing and construction companies but also he started his own business, Burgard Construction, where he did roofing, siding and demolition.
He was a multi-award winning dog trainer who trained both hunting and show dogs.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
