Orion Baxter Jr.

Orion B. Baxter Jr., 80, of Colchester, formerly of Cameron, Avon and Roseville, died March 15, 2020, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born July 28, 1939, in Monmouth, a son of Orion and Florence Bainter Baxter Sr.

Surviving are one brother, Chuck Baxter of Roseville; one sister, Blanche (and Larry) Mummert of Havana; two nephews; and two nieces.

He worked for many farmers in the Roseville to Avon area. He drove a school bus for the Roseville School District for six years, along with working at several area auto repair shops, service stations, grain elevators and feed mills. He had his own farm. He did custom bailing for many local farmers.

In his early years, he attended the Means one-room schoolhouse near Cameron after which he attended school in Cameron, Galesburg, Colchester and was in the Avon Class of 1957.

Private services will be held at Bethel Cemetery. Friends may view and sign the register book at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
