Robert BoydRobert (Bob) Leander Boyd, 90, of Springfield died Aug. 1, 2018, at Heritage Health in Springfield.

He was born June 9, 1928, in Rushville, the son of James R. and Jessie E. Boyd. He married Jane Wilmot on March 9, 1947.

Surviving are five children, James R. (and Linda) of Austin Texas, Jon M. (and Marilyn) of Chicago, Melinda Jane Crum of Rushville, Craig W. (and Brenda) of Jacksonville, Thomas N. (and Jennifer Noe) of Chicago and daughter-in-law Teresa of Rushville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his good friend Sheila O’Bryen of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Cynthia Corbridge; one son, William Douglas Boyd and son-in-law Danny Crum.

He was a 1946 graduate of Rushville High School. While still in high school, he organized his first dance band, “The Rhythmaires”. After high school, he played saxophone in various bands throughout west central Illinois. In the early 1960s, he formed the Bob Boyd Orchestra. He opened Boyd Music in 1954, where he sold instruments to support school music programs. Boyd Music continues as a family business managed by son Craig and daughter Mindy. Another venture was his four-lane bowling alley, the Rushville Bowl.

He was a long-time member of St. Petersburg Country Club in Florida.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with David Haney officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
