Esther Bowser

Esther BowserEsther Bowser, 99, of Elkton, Md., died May 2, 2017.

She was born in Chatham, a daughter of John B. and Barbara Fahs Werner. She married Childs Bowser. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by one son, David Bowser; four sisters; one brother; and one great-grandson, Bryan Johnston.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Johnston and Suzanne Skrypek; one son, John Henry Bowser; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The daughter of farmers, she grew up in Astoria, and graduated from Astoria High School. She met her husband of 47 years, Childs, in Astoria and lived there for several years before moving to New Jersey. They also lived in Kentucky, Maryland and Pennsylvania prior to settling in Elkton to be near their daughter, Barbara.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at several hospitals and as a cafeteria manager at North Pocono School, where she retired after 11 years of service.

She was a member of Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church, Newark, Del.

A funeral service was held Monday at her church. Burial was in Head of Christiana Presbyterian Cemetery.
