Freida BradenFreida Louise Braden, 84, of Lewistown died at 4:45 p.m. Jan. 22, 2017, at her home.

She was born June 30, 1932, in rural Camden, a daughter of Ray and Alta Unger Lawson. She married James Lewis McClelland on March 12, 1949, in Mount Sterling. He died Feb. 27, 1965. She married Don R. Braden on July 14, 1972. He died July 10, 2002.

She also was preceded in death by one sibling, Lorena Gabbert.

Surviving are her children, David (and Kay) McClelland of LeRoy, Marilyn (and Keith) Aden of Avon and Deborah (and Ron) Carpenter of Lewistown; three stepchildren, Bill (and Ruth) Braden and Dorothy (and Don) Herriford, both of Lewistown and Jackie (and Roger) Waggoner of Elmwood; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Camden Grade and High Schools and was a member of Camden United Methodist Church and Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown.

While living in Camden, she was a telephone operator, a cook at Camden Grade School and operated Camden Café for a brief time.

After moving to Lewistown in 1964, she worked several years for Weirauch Florist and Greenhouse and Day and Palin Grocery. She served first as activities director and later as administrator of Spoon River Towers. She also was a Realtor, working with her husband, Don, at Braden Real Estate.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown with the Rev. Brant Reed officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Mount Sterling City Cemetery. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Lewistown Society for Historical Preservation, Spoon River Professional Women’s Association or Alzheimer’s Research.
