Willey Bassham

Willey BasshamWilley J. Bassham, 85, of Littleton died at 8 p.m. Jan. 28, 2016, at his home.

He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Moko, Ark., a son of William and Martha Ward Bassham. He married Shirley D’Camp on Oct. 29, 1955, in East Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Donna (and Mark) Tonsor of Marquette Heights, Zoe (and Larry) Ellison of Low Point and Billy (and Lori) Bassham of East Peoria; one brother, Nelson (and Kay) Bassham of Salem, Ark.; one sister, Dorothy (and Bob) Gerkin of East Peoria; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Samuel Ray Bassham; five brothers, Charles, Chris, Alvin, Bud and Buster Bassham; and two sisters, Cecil Hutchison and Carrie Allen.

He worked as a machinist at Caterpillar for over 30 years retiring in 1981. He also farmed in the Littleton area.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Littleton, the UAW Local 974 and Gideons International. He helped construct three different churches.

Services were held Tuesday at his church with Dennis Williamson officiating. Burial was in the Brooklyn Cemetery. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
