H. Raymond BerryH. Raymond "Ray" Berry, 90, of Lewistown died at 11:50 p.m. March 25, 2011, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Lewistown, a son of Elzie and Emma Nelson Berry. He married Ruth Pollitt on Feb. 14, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. She died Jan. 13, 2006.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Tana Reed; and three brothers, William, Ralph and Elzie Berry Jr.

Surviving are two daughters, Connie (and Mike) Boone of Canton and Marcia Berry of Lewistown; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater and was present at Omaha Beach. He was wounded in action in France in 1944 and received the Purple Heart Medal.

He was a coal miner retiring from Freeman United Electric Mine.

He was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church, Lewistown VFW Post 5001, Lewistown American Legion Post 1 and UMWA.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Deryck Sonaram officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown where military services were conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Post 1.
