George E. Bohm, 96, of Vermont, formerly of Havana, died at 1:32 p.m. Dec. 4, 2010, at Astoria Gardens and Rehab Center.

He was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Havana, a son of Lawrence E. “Gene” and Ola Gilbert Bohm. He married Esther Garber on Oct. 16, 1935, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 1985.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Porter of Vermont and Carol Wherley of Tucson, Ariz.; four sons, Edward Bohm of Vermont, George Bohm of Big Piney, Wyo., Rob Bohm of Marbleton, Wyo., and Paul Bohm of Rock Springs, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

He was a retired farmer and had owned two grocery stores, The Depot Market in Havana and George’s Food Market in Ipava. He operated the stores after his return from the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Bandera in World War II.

He was a member of Vermont American Legion Post.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.

Memorials may be made to the activity fund at Astoria Gardens.
