Thomas BucherThomas Franklin “Tom” Bucher, 56, of Tucson, Ariz., died July 30, 2010, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1953, in Canton, a son of Isaac G. and Fern M. Kessler Bucher. He married Debra Oliver on May 5, 1973, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Joel (and Monica) Bucher; four brothers, Jim (and Susie) Bucher of New Philadelphia, and Willie (and Nellie) Bucher, Bob (and Susie) Bucher and Albert (and Marsha) Bucher, all of Astoria; two sisters, Carolyn (and Rodney) Bricker of Wyoming and Alice (and Wendell) Clanin of Astoria; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He lived with his parents and siblings on a farm north of Summum until 1966 when his dad retired and moved to Astoria. Then they moved to Rushville in 1970, where Tom graduated in 1972.

Tom and his family moved to Tucson in 1981 where he worked in the construction industry until 2002, before retiring due to disabilities.

He was baptized in 1975 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was active in his church and served as an elder for many years.

Services were held Aug. 7 in Tucson. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Astoria American Legion.
