Joseph O. Barclay, 79, of Vermont died at 6:14 a.m. Oct. 11, 2009, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Mapleton, a son of Donald and Josie Monks Barclay.

Surviving are two sons, Chuck (and Melinda) Barclay of Newburgh, Ind., and Ernie (and Melissa) Barclay of Ipava; two daughters, Wilma (and D.J.) Ford of Ipava and Carol (and Johnny) Johnson of Mountain Home, Ark.; one sister, Bernadine Barclay of Glasford; special friend, Bonnie Schisler of Montana; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four half-brothers and three half-sisters.

He was in the U.S. Army.

He drove a truck for Ipava Elevator. He also worked at Caterpillar and was a deputy for Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.

He attended Vermont Bible Church.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation.

Memorials may be made to Vermont Fire Department or Ipava Fire Department.
