Lloyd BennettLloyd E. Bennett, 86, of Vermont died at 2:50 p.m. Aug. 28, 2009, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born March 30, 1923, in Kirksville, Mo., a son of Robert and Minnie Cole Bennett. He married Estalene Hardman on Nov. 16, 1946, in Memphis, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Ernest (and Alice) Bennett of Vermont; daughter-in-law, Kay Bennett of Vermont; one sister-in-law, Mary Bennett of Edina, Mo.; one grandson; one step grandson; two great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Ivan Bennett; and one infant brother, Lewis Bennett.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 854th Engineers Company with the rank of T5.

He was a farm hand in Missouri and Illinois.

He was a member of Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont and Vermont Christian Church.

Services were held Monday at his church with Rev. Clifton Hart officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery with military rites conducted by Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
