Dallas Overton Bossort, 83, died July 21, 2009, at his son’s home in Bismarck, N.D.

He was born Dec. 25, 1925, in Table Grove, a son of Lucien and Esther Bossort. He married Margaret Anne Elmore in 1948. Later, he married Thelma Chenoweth Hammond in 1978. They divorced in 2007.

Surviving are three children: Kathleen Bossort of Delta, British Columbia, Patricia (and Peter) Van der Velden of Sacramento, Calif., and Dr. Bradley (and Janet) Bossort of Bismarck, N.D.; one sister, Irene Moon of Adair; two nephews; and two grandchildren.

He was inducted into the Air Force in January, 1944, and served in World War II in Alaska as a cryptographer.

He graduated from Table Grove High School in 1943, and received his bachelors degree at Monmouth College.

In 1950, he graduated from Iowa State University with a masters degree in geology. He began his career in Calgary, Alberta, starting with Texaco and stratigraphic services, Shell in Casper, Wyo., in 1955-56, before becoming an exploration manager in 1957 at Woodley Canadian Petroleums.

He worked independently with J.R. Parten of Houston, Texas. From 1966 to 1975, the discovery of East Dollard Oilfield in Saskatchewan lead him to operate 65 out of 75 clients with interests in wells.

In 1975, he moved to Billings, Mont., and completed two gas wells and a pipeline in Sibbald Bakken in Alberta.

He spent the winter months of 1976 to 1979 as a consultant on Alaska’s North slope at Prudhoe Bay Drilling operations.

He moved to Midland, Texas, where he retired in 1986, then moving to Ellisville to be near his farms. From 1994 to 2007, he lived in The Oak Creek Valley near Sedona, Ariz.

He wrote books, and completed his fourth and longest work “Merger”.

Private services were held in Bismarck prior to his cremation.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Harris Cemetery, followed by a meal and gathering at Table Grove American Legion.
