Richard "Dick" BarronRichard Kenneth “Dick” Barron, 79, of Rushville died at 3:26 p.m. March 24, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Granite City, the son of Percy O. and Christina Bongartz Barron. He married Marilyn E. Stroh on June 27, 1953, in Montgomery, Ala. She died Sept. 14, 1987. He later married Donna Jean Hughes on Oct. 8, 1988, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, David of Oakwood, Ohio, and Paul (Shawn Acerson) of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter, Ann Ramsey (and Michael) of San Antonio, Texas; one stepson, Kevin Hughes (and Sherry Muffick) of Meredosia; one stepdaughter, Lori (and Dan) Biehl of Foley, Mo.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marion Kessler.

He was in the Air Force band, stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., during the Korean War.

He was the band director at Rushville High School for 35 years and served on the Schuy-Rush Park Board for 25 years.

Cremation will be accorded. Inurnment will be in Bluff City Cemetery.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Rushville-Industry High School Band, Schuy-Rush Park, Rushville Public Library, Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at Culbertson Hospital, Children’s International or a scholarship fund or charity of your choice.
