Dale BresslerDale E. Bressler, 82, of Canton died at 12:01 p.m. Jan. 4, 2009, at his residence.

He was born March 18, 1926, in Lamar, Colo., a son of Clarence L. and Mabel E. Rich Bressler. He married Pauline A. Meyers on March 25, 1952, in Colorado. She died March 4, 2000.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Dale Bressler Jr.; and one brother, Robert Bressler.

Surviving are four children, Pauline (and Max) Bowman, Carol DeLathouwer and Judy Ann Bressler, all of Astoria and Earl Wayne (and Connie) Bressler of Surprise, Ariz.; special friend, Maxine Cheatham, with whom he made his home; three brothers, Delbert Bressler of Macomb, Allen (and Pat) Fitton of Largo, Fla., and Walter (and Helena) Fitton of Peoria; one sister, Dorothy Farren of East Moline; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II and Korean War. He served as a Seaman 1st Class from 1944 to 1946.

He worked as an assembler at Caterpillar for seven years; FS Elevator in Lewistown for five years; street department for the City of Peoria for 11 years; delivery man for Peoria Casket Co. for five years; and State of Illinois Conservation Dept. for 12 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Canton American Legion Post #16, Canton VFW and past member of Canton Moose.

He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton.

Services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton with Rev. Roger Russell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Cremation will follow services. Inurnment will be at a later date.
