Gwendolyn BartlowGwendolyn Idele “Gwen” Bartlow, 83, of Rushville died at 3:05 a.m. Sept. 17, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born April 16, 1924, in Ellsworth, a daughter of Charles Elmer and Dorothy Margaret Dennis Bane. She married Robert E. “Ted” Bartlow on Feb. 5, 1950, in Leroy. He died Aug. 7, 2001.

Surviving are one son, Howard Bane Bartlow of Rushville; one daughter, Jane Ellen (and Dr. John H.) McMillan of Prairie Village, Kan.; one sister, Margaret Bane Caldwell of Ellsworth; three grandchildren; and her caregiver, Martha Rockwell of Rushville.

She graduated Salutatorian from Leroy High School in 1941, and from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington with a bachelors degree in music performance from Illinois Wesleyan in 1947.

Before her marriage, Gwen taught music for one year in Elgin and one and a half years at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rushville, United Methodist Women, Sigma Alpha Iota, PEO Sisterhood Chapter AL, Schuyler Singers and served on the Illinois Wesleyan University Parent Board and the Open Arms Preschool Board.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at her church with Rev. Paul Arnold and Rev. Mary Arnold officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery.
