MAX DOUGLAS BAUMGARTNER

VeteranMax Baumgartner

Max Douglas Baumgartner, 82, of Chatham, formerly of Lewistown, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.

He was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Canton, a son of Trendon and Georgia Nolan Baumgartner. He married Lorraine Christensen on Sept. 30, 1946, in Palmyra, Mo. She died in 1986.

Surviving are one son, Joe (and Judy) of Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Carol Lidwell of Chatham and Nancy Baumgartner of Lewistown; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Jacobus of Lewistown.

A World War II Navy veteran, he received the Purple Heart and was a member of Ipava American Legion.

He retired from Illinois Power Co. in Havana.

He was a member of Ipava Men's Club.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Springfield Crematory with Ellinger-Kunz & Davis Funeral Home in Springfield in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Lewistown Cemetery at a later date.
