John W. Blemler, 80, of Ipava died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Astoria, a son of Joseph H. and Lenora Bloomfield Blemler. He married Doris Ilene Huff on April 22, 1942, in Rossville, Ga. She died April 14, 1992.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers and one infant sister.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald (and Sandy) of Normal and John (and Linda) of Ipava; one daughter, Joyce (and Dan) Palmer of Ipava; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Service Company, 130th Infantry and the 76th Field Artillery Battery, 91st Reconnaissance Battalion.

He was a self-employed plasterer and painter. He and his wife owned and operated Table Grove Cafe in Table Grove for several years.

He was a member of Ipava Christian Church, Ipava Zoning Committee, Ipava American Legion Post 17 and was a past member of the Ipava Village Board and the Ipava Ball Park Assn.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with Rev. Kevin Kessler officiating. Cremation has been accorded, and burial of ashes will be in Ipava Cemetery with military rites conducted by his American Legion post.

Memorials may be made to his church or his American Legion post.
