Donald Ray Berry, 65, of Ripley, formerly of Vermont, was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born March 1, 1936, in Brown County, a son of Robert and Ruby Swisegood Berry. He married Lois Nunamaker Warden on March 20, 1984, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are four stepsons, Leslie (and Pam) Warden of Edinburg, Jeffery Warden of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tracy (and Rebecca) Warden of Virginia and Vinson (and Jo) Warden of Wylie, Texas; two stepdaughters, Dawn (and Kevin) Gossage of Rushville and Melody Warden of Springfield; 15 stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

One stepson, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

An Army veteran, he served from 1959 to 1961.

He worked as a heavy equipment operating engineer thru Operating Engineers Local 649 in Peoria for 25 years, retiring in August 1993.

He was a member of Ripley Church of God.

A military service was conducted by American Legion Post 374 at Tuesday evening's visitation. Services were held today at Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling with Rob Laning and Jim Ring officiating. Burial was in Mounds Cemetery near Timewell.
