FRANKLIN R. BARTLETT

VeteranFranklin Bartlett

Franklin R. Bartlett, 72, of Columbia, Tenn., formerly of Smithfield, died at 3:03 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in Columbia.

He was born April 6, 1928, in Abingdon, the son of Cassie D. and Mary Jane Watson Bartlett. He married Marilyn Lowe on May 6, 1950, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother of Lewistown; two daughters, Vicki Bair of Columbia and Frankie Jane Ren of Thompson Station, Tenn.; one sister, Bernita Sipe of Lewistown; four grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Lou Bartlett, on March 24, 2000.

He had served in the Army National Guard.

He and his father had owned and operated Bartlett Service Station in Smithfield for 20 years. He later worked for Caterpillar Inc. in Mossville and Amex Coal Mine in Vermont for several years. He retired as a millwright from the U.S. Tobacco Co. in Nashville, Tenn.

He was a member and past master of Cuba Masonic Lodge and Vermont Masonic Lodge.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Randy McGeehon officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
