Raymond Barnes

Raymond W. Barnes, 84, of Canton, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at Graham Hospital.

He was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Farmington Township, Fulton County, a son of Emerson and Blanche Slack Barnes. He married Adelaide Viano on June 15, 1934, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James (Irma) Hootman and Mrs. Eldon (June) Miller, both of Cuba, and Mrs. Edward (Virginia) Churchill of Ipava; two brothers, Donald Evans of Farmington and Chellis Evans of Canton; one sister, Marian Smith of Pekin; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers and his stepfather, Josiah Evans.

He was a farmer. He was a member of Fulton County Riding Club and the Fulton County Farm Bureau. He was a former board member of the Health Insurance Association. He trained horses and participated in many rodeos.

He was a member of Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield, where services were held Saturday with Rev. Dr. Althea Alton officiating. Burial was in Providence Chapel Cemetery in rural Fairview. Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton was in charge of arrangements.
