Q. Donald Baily

Q. Donald Baily, 89, of Table Grove, died at 7:05 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 4, 1909, in Table Grove, the son of Quinton Douglas and Nellie Hammond Baily. He married Winifred Hayes on May 22, 1938, in Table Grove. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Q. Douglas of Table Grove and John “Jack” of Macomb; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One daughter, Rebecca O’Brien, and three sisters preceded him in death.

He attended Knox College in Galesburg, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He ran the Dinette Cafeteria in Chicago for his father in 1928. In 1933, he worked his way to Germany on a tramp freighter. He began working at Farmers State Bank in 1936. He organized the Table Grove State Bank in 1946, where he served as cashier, president and retired as chairman of the board in 1994. He was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116 in Vermont; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; Mohammed Temple, Shrine, in Peoria; Macomb Elks Lodge; and Lewistown Alligator Club. He also was a member of Table Grove Community Church, where he served on the church board and was a member of the Men’s Quartet. He was past president and secretary/treasurer of the Table Grove Men’s Club.

Services were held this morning at his church with Rev. Tim Ashley officiating. Burial was in Table Grove Cemetery. Kost Memorial Home in Vermont was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church, Table Grove Fire & Rescue Squad or to Midwest Kidney Center in Canton and Macomb.
