John D. Belless, 55, of Topeka, formerly of Lewistown, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born May 6, 1943, in Ipava, a son of Ernest and Zephyr Sanders Belless.

Surviving are four sons, Jack Green of Peoria, John Belless Jr. of Buzzville, Wayne Belless of Cuba and Kirk Belless of Lewistown; four brothers, Ernest “Junior” and Peter, both of Lewistown, Floyd of Des Moines, Iowa, and Larry of Liverpool; three sisters, Sharon St. Clair of St. David, Bonnie Robinson of Bloomington and Mary Belless of Canton; and several grandchildren.

A member of Havana American Legion Post, he served in the Navy and the Army. He worked in construction out of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin.

Services were held Tuesday at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Earle Black officiating. Burial was in Bernadotte Cemetery, where military rites were conducted by the Ipava American Legion Post.
