Ernest Bubb

Ernest J. Bubb, 87, of Astoria, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Golden Place Assisted Living Facility in St. Joseph, Mich.

He was born Dec. 22, 1911, in rural Astoria, a son of Jesse E. and Sara Bucher Bubb. He married Vera L. Rhone on June 11, 1935. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jerry Bubb of Astoria and Larry Bubb of Three Oaks, Mich.; one daughter, Sandra Krouse of South Haven, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Eldon Bubb of Arizona; and one sister, Flora Harvey of California.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

He graduated from Astoria High School and Mount Morris College. He was a rural schoolteacher and also a truck driver for Bubb Produce Co. He was a grocer for Royal Blue Food Store and Locker Plant. He owned Astoria Gas and Electric, Pyrofax Bottle Gas and Culligan Soft Water Co. He later was president of Farmers State Bank of Astoria, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Astoria Church of the Brethren with Pastor Gary Schultz officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery near Astoria.

Memorials may be made to his church.
