Howard Bridges, 73, of Havana, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at his home.

He was born May 26, 1925, in Kilbourne, a son of George and Mary Williams Bridges. He married Shirley Morse on July 29, 1950.

Surviving are his friend, Debbie Bailey of Havana, who took care of him; five sons, Larry, Kevin, Mark, James and Kenny, all of Havana; five daughters, Linda Pratt of Bath, Mary DeWeese of Creve Coeur, Nelda Grove of Astoria, Marla Mayall of Springfield and Sally Bridges of Michigan; four brothers, Danny and Eldon, both of Havana, Davey of Peoria and Dale “Stubb” of Sarasota, Fla.; three sisters, Vivian Towery and Rosemary Burgett, both of Havana, and Lois McCoy of Florida; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Four brothers preceded him in death.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6408. He was a retired boilermaker.

Services were held Tuesday at Hurley Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Lesemann officiating. Burial was in Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne, where military rites were accorded by his VFW post.
