Charles H. Brumett, 80, of Macomb, formerly of Ipava, died at 8:26 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Heartland Health Care Center.

He was born June 2, 1918, in Saunemin, a son of John and Ida Wagner Brumett. He married Ruth Anne Howell on Nov. 30, 1943, in Peoria. She died July 14, 1993. He also was preceded in death by one stepgrandson, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Barbara) Bailey of Macomb; one son, John of Canton, Mo.; two grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

A graduate of Illinois State University, he taught school for three years. He later farmed for 35 years, retiring in 1984. A World War II Army veteran, he served as a bombardier. He was a member of Macomb American Legion Post 6 and Macomb Elks Lodge 1009. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Services were held Sunday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery, where military rites were accorded.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
