Vera S. Burke, 88, of Bushnell, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born Oct. 13, 1909, in Table Grove, a daughter of Edgar J. and Mary Wootten Skien. She married Lyle A. Gray on Sept. 28, 1929. He died Oct. 6, 1954. She married John A. Burke on July 12, 1962, in Bushnell. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gilbert Gray of Bushnell; one sister, Margaret Swedell of Macomb; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of Bushnell United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of PEO, Chapter X, where she served as past president. She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Lucille Chapter, where she served as worthy matron. She was a charter member of McDonough District Hospital Auxiliary.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home with Revs. Martha Scaff and David Kurt officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and a PEO memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Pennington Point Cemetery.
