BARBARA J. (GALLOWAY) BURTON

Barbara Burton

Barbara J. Burton, 65, of Browning, died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996, at the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1930, in Rushville, the daughter of Grover and Helen (Parker) Galloway. She married Gene Burton on Feb. 15, 1948, in Mt. Sterling. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Charles Burton of Rushville, Paul Burton and Jeff Burton, both of Browning; five grandchildren, one step great-grandson; two brothers, Donald and James Arlin Galloway, both of Mt. Sterling; and one sister, Frances Bordenkircher of Mt. Sterling.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one grandson Samuel Taylor, one sister Jean Gregory and one brother Clifton Galloway.

She was a first and second grade teacher at the Browning Grade School for 14 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Browning where she taught Sunday School and played the organ, Schuyler County Home Extension, co-leader of the Mud Valley Luckies 4-H Club, and a member of the former Browning Rebekahs.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Central Christian Church in Browning with Jon Ashworth, Greg Parker, Don Bowman and Chris Burdette officiating. Burial was in the Browning Cemetery.

Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
